LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
What to Know Before Booking a Courier in Baltimore
Baltimore is a harbor city with a missing bridge, two tunnels, and blocks of narrow rowhouse streets. These six points affect a delivery.
The Key Bridge Is Out
The Francis Scott Key Bridge, which carried the Beltway across the outer harbor, collapsed in 2024, and its replacement is not expected to open until late 2030. Until then, cross-harbor traffic goes through the two tunnels or around the west side of I-695.
Two Tolled Tunnels
The Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95 and the Harbor Tunnel on I-895 both charge a toll, collected electronically. With the bridge gone they carry more of the cross-harbor traffic, so runs between the east side and the airport are slower at peak hours.
Rowhouse Streets and Alleys
Much of the city is narrow one-way streets lined with rowhouses, with parking on both sides. Couriers often unload from an alley or a corner, and a smaller vehicle is the practical choice for neighborhood deliveries.
Hospital and Campus Receiving
Johns Hopkins Hospital, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the university campuses each take deliveries at specific docks or desks. The building name, the department, and a contact keep a courier from being sent around the block.
Stadium Days Downtown
Oriole Park at Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium sit side by side at the south edge of downtown, right where I-95, I-395, and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway come in. Game days slow every approach to the city center.
Parkway Rules Toward Washington
The National Park Service section of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway does not allow commercial trucks, so larger vehicles heading south use I-95. Baltimore to Washington is a separate, longer run from a delivery within the Baltimore area.

BALTIMORE COURIER FAQ
Baltimore Courier Service FAQ
How much do courier services cost in Baltimore?
It depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and how soon you need the pickup. Tunnel tolls and the detours left by the Key Bridge collapse affect cross-harbor runs. Enter your addresses for an estimate.
Is same-day courier service available in Baltimore?
Yes. Same-day delivery covers Baltimore City and the surrounding counties, including Towson, Columbia, Glen Burnie, and Annapolis.
Do Baltimore couriers deliver to Towson, Columbia, and Annapolis?
Yes. Baltimore County, Howard County, and Anne Arundel County are part of the Baltimore market.
Can a courier deliver to Johns Hopkins Hospital?
Yes. Give the building, the department, and the receiving desk or dock if you know it, plus a phone contact. The campus covers many blocks.
How does the Key Bridge collapse affect deliveries?
Routes that once crossed the outer harbor now use the tunnels or the western half of the Beltway, which adds time at busy hours. The calculator maps the route as it runs today.
Can couriers pick up near BWI Airport?
Yes. Couriers pick up from the warehouses and offices in Linthicum and the airport business parks.
Do you deliver from Baltimore to Washington, DC?
Washington is a separate market about 40 miles southwest. The calculator will map any specific pair of addresses.
Can I schedule recurring deliveries in Baltimore?
Yes. Routes can repeat daily or weekly, and your preferred couriers are offered them first.
