LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
What to Know Before Booking a Courier in Boston
Boston’s streets predate the car, and a few of its main roads were never built for the delivery van. These six points affect cost and timing.
Storrow Drive Is Cars Only
Storrow Drive, Memorial Drive, and Soldiers Field Road run under bridges as low as nine feet and are closed to trucks and moving vans. A cargo van delivery along the Charles goes by Beacon Street, Commonwealth Avenue, or the Mass Pike.
Tunnels, a Bridge, and the Pike
The harbor tunnels, the Tobin Bridge, and the Massachusetts Turnpike all charge electronic tolls. Deliveries to the airport, East Boston, Chelsea, and the western suburbs usually include one of them.
Old Streets, Few Places to Stop
The North End, Beacon Hill, and much of downtown are narrow one-way streets with little curb space. Couriers plan the stop as carefully as the drive, and a named entrance or alley in the order helps.
Snow Emergencies
When the city declares a snow emergency, parking is banned on major streets so plows can get through. Deliveries continue where roads are open, but stops take longer while the snowbanks last.
Move-In Week
Around September 1, students across the city move in at once, and streets in Allston, Brighton, Fenway, and Cambridge fill with moving trucks. Deliveries in those neighborhoods are slower that week.
Game Days and Marathon Monday
Fenway Park and TD Garden both sit on tight city streets that clog before and after games. On Marathon Monday in April, roads along the race route from Hopkinton to Back Bay close for much of the day.

BOSTON COURIER FAQ
Boston Courier Service FAQ
How much does a courier service cost in Boston?
Cost depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and the timing. Boston distances are short, but traffic, tolls, and hard-to-reach addresses add time. Enter your pickup and dropoff for an estimate.
Is same-day delivery available in Boston?
Yes. Same-day courier delivery is available in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, and the surrounding suburbs.
Do Boston couriers deliver to Cambridge and Somerville?
Yes. Routes across the Charles to Kendall Square, Harvard Square, and Union Square are routine.
Can a courier deliver to labs and hospitals?
Yes. Deliveries to Kendall Square labs and the Longwood Medical Area usually go to a receiving dock or front desk. Include the building, floor, and recipient so the handoff is quick.
Can couriers reach the suburbs along Route 128?
Yes. Waltham, Burlington, Woburn, Needham, and Quincy are all covered, along with towns out toward I-495 such as Framingham.
Do couriers deliver during snowstorms?
Deliveries run through the winter. During a snow emergency or a heavy storm, expect longer drive times and slower stops until streets are cleared.
Can I send several deliveries on one route?
Yes. A multi-stop route puts several drop-offs on one courier, which suits bakery, florist, and catering runs across the city.
What size vehicles do Boston couriers drive?
SUVs, minivans, and cargo vans. Smaller vehicles are handy on Boston’s tight streets, and cargo vans take larger orders on routes that avoid the low parkway bridges.
