LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What to Know Before Booking a Courier in San Jose

Silicon Valley is a string of cities and office campuses tied together by freeways and county expressways. These six points shape a delivery.

  1. The County Expressways

Santa Clara County has its own network of expressways, including Lawrence, San Tomas, Central, Montague, and Capitol. They carry much of the valley’s cross-town traffic and are often quicker than the freeways for a delivery between neighboring cities.

  2. Express Lanes on 101, 85, and 237

Express lanes on Highway 237 and on stretches of US 101 and Highway 85 charge a toll that changes with traffic and require FasTrak. They can take a good part of the commute-hour delay out of a run.

  3. Campus Deliveries Go to Receiving

Large technology campuses rarely accept deliveries at the front door. Orders go to a receiving dock, mailroom, or lobby security desk, often in a different building from the recipient, so the building number and a contact matter.

  4. The Commute Runs in One Direction

Traffic on 101, 880, 280, and 85 flows toward the job centers in the morning and away from them in the evening. A delivery that goes against the commute can take half the time of the same route in the other direction.

  5. Bay Bridges Charge Toward the Peninsula

The Dumbarton and San Mateo bridges collect a toll only westbound. A route from the East Bay into the valley includes the toll, and the trip back does not.

  6. Stadium and Arena Events

Games and concerts at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara close streets around Great America Parkway and Tasman Drive, and events at SAP Center fill downtown San Jose. Deliveries nearby go best several hours ahead.

SAN JOSE COURIER FAQ

San Jose Courier Service FAQ

How much do courier services cost in San Jose?

Price depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and the timing. The direction of the commute and any express lanes or bridge tolls on the route also play a part. Enter your addresses for an estimate.

Is same-day courier service available in San Jose?

Yes. Same-day delivery covers San Jose and Santa Clara County, including Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Cupertino.

Do San Jose couriers deliver to tech campuses?

Yes. Give the company, building number, and the receiving or lobby desk the campus uses for deliveries, plus a contact who can accept the order.

Do you deliver to Palo Alto and Mountain View?

Yes. The northern end of the county, including Stanford Research Park, is part of the San Jose market.

Can a courier deliver between San Jose and San Francisco?

San Francisco is a separate market about 50 miles north. Routes up the Peninsula as far as Palo Alto are part of the San Jose area, and the calculator will map any specific pair of addresses.

Can couriers deliver hardware, samples, and prototypes?

Yes, as long as the load fits an SUV, minivan, or cargo van. Note anything fragile or anything that needs to stay upright so the right vehicle is sent.

Can one courier make several stops across Silicon Valley?

Yes. A multi-stop route can link several campuses or customers in one run. Stops along the same expressway or freeway make the most efficient route.

Can I set up a recurring delivery route?

Yes. Routes can repeat daily or weekly, such as a standing catering delivery to an office or a regular run between two sites.
