LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What to Know Before Booking a Courier in San Francisco

San Francisco packs steep hills, a main street closed to private cars, and one-way bridge tolls into seven miles by seven. These six points affect a delivery.

  1. Bridge Tolls Point Into the City

The Bay Bridge charges westbound and the Golden Gate Bridge charges southbound, so both are tolled only on the way into San Francisco. The Bay Bridge toll is higher during commute hours, and the Golden Gate has no cash lanes.

  2. Market Street Is Closed to Private Cars

Private vehicles are not allowed on Market Street through downtown. Vehicles with commercial plates, taxis, and transit can use it, so a courier in a personal SUV reaches Market Street addresses from the side streets.

  3. Yellow Curbs and Commercial Plates

Yellow loading zones in San Francisco are reserved for vehicles with commercial license plates during the hours painted on the curb. Other vehicles have to find a white zone, a meter, or a building dock.

  4. Tow-Away Lanes at Commute Hours

On many downtown streets the curb lane becomes a traffic lane in the morning and late afternoon, and anything parked there is towed. Deliveries on those blocks are timed outside the posted hours.

  5. Steep Streets

Some blocks on Nob Hill, Russian Hill, and Potrero Hill are steep enough that parking and unloading take extra care. A cargo van may stop on the flatter cross street and carry the order the last few yards.

  6. Games, Conventions, and Parades

Oracle Park and Chase Center sit close together along the southern waterfront, Moscone Center fills SoMa during large conventions, and parades and races close streets several times a year. Deliveries nearby need extra time.

SAN FRANCISCO COURIER FAQ

San Francisco Courier Service FAQ

How much do courier services cost in San Francisco?

Cost depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and the timing. Distances are short inside the city, but bridge tolls and slow curb access add to cross-bay and downtown runs. Enter your addresses for an estimate.

Is same-day delivery available in San Francisco?

Yes. Same-day courier delivery is available in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, South San Francisco, and the mid-Peninsula.

Do San Francisco couriers deliver to Oakland and Berkeley?

Yes. The East Bay is part of the San Francisco market, and couriers cross the Bay Bridge in both directions throughout the day.

Do Bay Area bridge tolls change the price of a delivery?

They can. The Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge charge only toward San Francisco, so a route into the city includes a toll and a route out does not.

Can a courier deliver to an address on Market Street?

Yes. Depending on the vehicle, the courier either stops on Market Street itself or parks on a side street and walks the order in. A suite number and a lobby contact help.

Can couriers deliver to labs in Mission Bay and South San Francisco?

Yes. Deliveries usually go to a receiving dock or lobby desk. Include the building, the company, and a contact name.

Do you deliver to San Jose and Silicon Valley?

San Jose is a separate market. Routes from San Francisco run down the Peninsula to Redwood City, and the calculator will map any specific pair of addresses.

Can I schedule recurring deliveries in the Bay Area?

Yes. Routes can repeat on the days you choose, with the same stops or a list that changes each time.
