LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What to Know Before Booking a Courier in St. Louis

St. Louis is a city, a separate county of nearly ninety municipalities, and two states joined by river bridges. These six points shape a delivery.

  1. The City and the County Are Separate

St. Louis City is not part of St. Louis County, and the county holds close to ninety municipalities of its own. A street name can repeat from one to the next, so the municipality and ZIP code belong in every address.

  2. Two O’Fallons

There is an O’Fallon in Missouri, in St. Charles County, and another in Illinois, about 45 miles east. Olive, Manchester, and Clayton Road also run for miles through several towns. The state and ZIP code settle which place is meant.

  3. Highway 40

Interstate 64 through St. Louis is still called Highway 40 by nearly everyone, and directions from a business will use that name. It is the main east-west road between downtown, Clayton, and West County.

  4. Crossing the Rivers

The Mississippi separates Missouri from the Metro East, and the Missouri River separates St. Louis County from St. Charles. Each has only a few bridges, and a closure on one sends everything to the next.

  5. Four Venues Downtown

Busch Stadium, Enterprise Center, the Dome, and the soccer stadium all sit within a mile or so of each other downtown. On game nights the streets between them fill early, and Mardi Gras does the same to Soulard each winter.

  6. Ice, Storms, and High Water

Winter ice storms can shut down hills and overpasses for a day, spring brings severe thunderstorms, and a high river can close the streets along the riverfront. Deliveries slow down on those days.

ST. LOUIS COURIER FAQ

St. Louis Courier Service FAQ

How much does a courier service cost in St. Louis?

Price depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and the timing. A run within the central corridor is short, and a trip to St. Charles or across the river to Illinois is longer. Enter your addresses for an estimate.

Is same-day courier service available in St. Louis?

Yes. Same-day delivery covers St. Louis City and County, St. Charles County, and the Metro East.

Do St. Louis couriers deliver to Illinois?

Yes. Belleville, Collinsville, Edwardsville, and the rest of the Metro East are part of the St. Louis market, reached over the Mississippi River bridges.

Do you deliver to Clayton and West County?

Yes. Clayton, Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, and the rest of West County are covered, mostly by way of Highway 40 and I-270.

Can a courier deliver to the medical campus in the Central West End?

Yes. Give the hospital or building, the department, and the dock or desk that takes deliveries, plus a contact.

Why does my address need the municipality and ZIP code?

Because the area has so many municipalities that street names repeat. The city or town name and ZIP code tell the courier exactly which address is yours.

Can couriers pick up near the airport and Earth City?

Yes. Pickups from the warehouses in Earth City, Hazelwood, and the airport area are routine.

Can I schedule recurring deliveries in St. Louis?

Yes. Routes can repeat daily or weekly, with your preferred couriers offered them first.
