LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What to Know Before Booking a Courier in Charleston

Charleston is an old port on a low peninsula, where tides, bridges, and narrow streets set the terms. These six points shape a delivery.

  1. A Peninsula With Few Ways In

Downtown sits on a narrow peninsula between two rivers. I-26 and a few bridges are the only ways on, so a wreck on one fills the others.

  2. Tidal Flooding

Streets on the peninsula flood at the highest tides and after heavy rain, even on sunny days. Couriers know which streets go under water and route around them.

  3. Narrow Historic Streets

South of Calhoun Street, many streets are one-way and barely wider than a van, and some are cobblestone. Loading zones are limited, and horse-drawn carriages set the pace on tour routes.

  4. The Port

Container terminals in North Charleston and Mount Pleasant send trucks onto I-26 and I-526 all day. Pickups near the terminals and at the distribution centers in Summerville need a dock and a reference number.

  5. I-526 and the Bridges

I-526 arcs from West Ashley through North Charleston to Mount Pleasant over two long bridges. There are no tolls in the Charleston area, but the high bridges can close in strong winds.

  6. Hurricane Season

From June through November, a storm threat can bring evacuation orders and lane reversals on I-26. Deliveries stop during an evacuation and restart when roads reopen.

CHARLESTON COURIER FAQ

Charleston Courier Service FAQ

How much do courier services cost in Charleston?

Price depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and the timing. Runs between downtown, Mount Pleasant, and North Charleston are about ten miles, and Summerville is about 25. Enter your addresses for an estimate.

Is same-day courier service available in Charleston?

Yes. Same-day delivery covers Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, Daniel Island, and Summerville.

Can a courier deliver in the historic district?

Yes. A smaller vehicle is best south of Calhoun Street. Send the door to use and a phone number, since stopping places are scarce.

Do Charleston couriers deliver to Mount Pleasant and the islands?

Yes. Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan’s Island are covered. Beach traffic adds time on summer weekends.

Do you deliver to Kiawah or Seabrook Island?

Check the route in the calculator. Both are about 25 miles from downtown on two-lane roads, behind security gates that need the recipient’s approval.

What happens when downtown streets flood?

Couriers take another street or wait for the water to drop. Tracking shows the delay, and support can update the recipient.

Do Charleston couriers deliver to Columbia or Savannah?

Columbia is about 115 miles northwest and Savannah about 105 miles southwest. Both are separate markets. Enter the addresses in the calculator to check.

Can I schedule recurring deliveries in Charleston?

Yes. Routes can repeat on set days across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.
