LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What to Know Before Booking a Courier in Charlotte

Charlotte calls its downtown Uptown, repeats its street names, and spills across a state line. These six points shape a delivery.

  1. Downtown Is Uptown

The city center is called Uptown, and directions from local businesses will use that name. It is ringed by I-277, and its towers take deliveries at loading docks and security desks, not front doors.

  2. Street Names Repeat and Change

Charlotte has Sharon Road, Sharon Lane, Sharon Amity Road, and Sharon View Road, and Queens Road meets Queens Road. Streets also change names as they go. The full street name and ZIP code prevent a wrong turn.

  3. Two States

Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and Indian Land are in South Carolina, a few miles from Ballantyne. The state belongs in the address, and routes cross the line as a matter of course.

  4. I-77 Express Lanes

The express lanes on I-77 north of Uptown toward Lake Norman are tolled, with prices that change with traffic. The Monroe Expressway to the southeast is a toll road too.

  5. I-77 and I-85

The two interstates carry most of the region’s traffic and meet just north of Uptown. Lake Norman runs on I-77 and Concord runs on I-85 are slow at both rush hours.

  6. Race Weeks and Game Days

Race weeks at the speedway in Concord, in May and October, fill I-85 and the roads around it. Football and soccer games at the stadium in Uptown close nearby streets for hours.
