LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What to Know Before Booking a Courier in New Orleans

New Orleans is built in a bend of the Mississippi, below sea level in places, with a calendar full of parades. These six points shape a delivery.

  1. Directions Follow the River

The river curves around the city, so compass directions are little use. People say uptown or downtown, lakeside or riverside, and an address note that uses those words is worth reading.

  2. The French Quarter

Streets in the Quarter are narrow and one-way, large trucks are restricted, and parts of Bourbon and Royal close to vehicles for hours each day. Deliveries go in the morning, in small vehicles.

  3. Carnival

For about two weeks before Mardi Gras day, parades roll along St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street most evenings and all weekend. Streets inside the parade route are cut off for hours, so deliveries are scheduled around the day’s parades.

  4. Streetcars and Neutral Grounds

Streetcars run in the grassy medians, called neutral grounds, on St. Charles, Canal, and other avenues. Crossings are limited, so reaching an address on the far side can mean a U-turn several blocks on.

  5. Rain Floods Streets

A heavy downpour can flood underpasses and low streets within an hour. Couriers route around them, and during a hurricane warning deliveries stop until officials reopen the roads.

  6. Bridges and the Causeway

The Crescent City Connection to the West Bank is free. The 24-mile Causeway across Lake Pontchartrain charges a toll in one direction, which is part of the cost of a Northshore route.

NEW ORLEANS COURIER FAQ

New Orleans Courier Service FAQ

How much do courier services cost in New Orleans?

Price depends on the route, the stops, the vehicle, and the timing. Runs within the city are short, and trips to Kenner, the West Bank, or the Northshore add miles. Enter your addresses for an estimate.

Is same-day courier service available in New Orleans?

Yes. Same-day delivery covers New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, Harahan, Gretna, Harvey, and Chalmette.

Can a courier deliver in the French Quarter?

Yes. Morning is best, before streets close to vehicles. Send the business name, the door or carriageway used for deliveries, and a phone number.

Do deliveries run during Mardi Gras?

Yes, around the parades. Addresses inside a parade route cannot be reached by vehicle for several hours, so book morning windows during Carnival.

Do New Orleans couriers deliver to the West Bank?

Yes. Algiers, Gretna, Harvey, Marrero, and Westwego are part of the New Orleans market.

Do you deliver to the Northshore?

Yes. Mandeville, Covington, and Slidell are reachable by the Causeway or I-10. The distance and any toll are part of the price.

Do New Orleans couriers deliver to Baton Rouge?

Baton Rouge is a separate market about 80 miles northwest on I-10. Use the calculator to check a route between them.

Can I schedule recurring deliveries in New Orleans?

Yes. Routes can repeat on set days across Orleans and Jefferson parishes, with couriers who know your door.
